Tree tales : Merbau a symbol of unity

Hai Semua !! Today while i was sitting under a tree , i just remembered something really exciting. I thought of sharing a small story.
A little girl named Alpha had visited Kerala with her parents for her winter break. She reached Allepey , Kerala. Alleppey in Kerala is a significant point for boat trips into Kerala's backwaters with numerous lakes and canals. The backwaters of Alleppey connect Kumarakom and Kochi in the north; it hosts the snake boat race every year. She saw a lot of woods which were kept nearby for  making boats. Her parents told her that it is the teak tree brought from Malaysia. She didnt know what was so special about this tree that it was used for making boats. She went back home and started learning.

So lets also learn something that Alpha had learnt.
A trivial information to grab is here at your doorstep. So scroll down and starting exploring with me .

                                                          👇👇

Do you know the name of that tree that was exported from Malaysia which Alpha had seen in Allepey ? It's alright..I am here to tell you all about that...

It is the Malacca Teak tree or Merbau. It was declared as the national tree of Malaysia on 23rd August 2019.
The merbau is found all over the country, including in Sabah and Sarawak. It is hardwood and stands tall and majestic.

Merbau is an indigenous rainforest tree and can grow up to 50m tall, with pinkish-grey bark that is shallowly marked with small, thin, roundish scaling pieces.

The trees grow in coastal regions and lowland forests, up to 850m in altitude.

They are native to Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, Sumatra, Thailand and India.

The announcement on the national tree, on the eve of the 62nd Merdeka celebration, comes with psychological importance.

It reinforces national unity at a time when there are efforts to undermine it.

From a nation-building perspective, merbau serves as a reminder that sustainable development is possible

"With its hardy nature, I believe that all Malaysians can take the merbau as a symbol of national pride,” said the Prime minister of Malaysia.

Do u know , i have heard that Merbau is the best timber in the world? I wa shocked to hear this..Do u know wh is it the best timber ? What are its properties ?? Lets grab them now 😀

Merbau Timber is one of the most used timbers in the furniture industry. Many factors set apart the Merbau wood from its counterparts of Teak and Oak. Revered as “God’s tree”, the Merbau sawn timber is specially used to construct temple doors, chariots, and other holy infrastructures.

Therefore, the wood is known as “Holy Wood”. Not only the wood appears impressive but also it caters to the need of fine furnishing at the house as well as office.

Merbau wood is attributed with plural names, depending on its popularity in varied regions. These names comprise Kwila wood, Malaysian Vengai wood and Merbau. Belonging to the Instia Bijuga, this Vengai wood is found to be cultivated in Southeast Asian countries, Pacific islands, Australia and many other parts of the world. Moreover, the particular name of the Kwila wood is designated according to the region it is exported, for eg. Indonesia Kwila wood, Africa Kwila timber and so on so forth.

Friends i think you have learnt quite a lot for now. Hope you found it informative . It was really nice to shar this peice of info with you all.. thank you for reading. Till the next post bye  !!
